13 Favorite Books I read in 2013

2014 starts at midnight tonight!!  2013 is going to be over in a few hours, another year gone and it doesn't even feel like it.

I was planning on doing one of the Tuesday meme today, but I spent some time reading a few other blogs and saw that they all did some sort of 2013 reflection post.  Honestly, I remembered that today was December 31, but the fact that 2013 would be over in just a few hours wasn't something I realized until reading those posts.  So, as you can see I am being a copycat and doing the same thing (not because I want to copy others, but because I think it's a great idea and want to do it too)!  I can't exactly come up with 13 different memories of this year, so I am going to list my top 13 favorite books or series that I have read this year.

1.  The Prophesized Series by Kaitlyn Hoyt

2. Divergent by Veronica Roth

3. The Revenents Triogy by Amy Plum

4. Sweet Oblivion by Bailey Ardisone

5. Beginnings (prequel), Survival(book #1), and Resurrection (book #2) of The Guardians Of Vesturon Series by A.M. Hargrove

6. The Lux Novels (Book 1-4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

7. Heroes Of Olympus Series by Rick Riordan

8. The Host by Stephine Meyer

9. The Midnight Fire Series by Kaitlyn Davis

10. Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

11. The Unearthly Series by Cynthia Hand

12. Prince Of Wolves by Quinn Loftis

13. Grey Eyes by B. Alston and Q. Ramey

Happy New Year everyone....in a few hours!!!! : )

Merrry Christmas

Hi everyone, and Merry Christmas!!!  If you don't celebrate Christmas than happy Wednesday!!!

First of all, let me just apologize for my long absence again.  I was just too busy reading and relaxing, so I took a break from blogging to just chill out for a while.  It's not working out too well though, because I love this blog too much and can't seem to stay away from it, so here I am once again! : )  Since it's Christmas, and as you can tell by now I don't have anything better to do (because I am supposed to be going to this family Christmas party and I have been ready for over an hour now, and waiting for the rest of my family to get ready) I decided to give you guys an proper introduction and a few things about myself.  I realized for a while now that ever since I started this blog, I haven't really given a proper introduction about myself, and I don't really count the "about me" page as an introduction.  So today, as a Christmas special I am going to do this about me post.

!! If you don't want to read this post, I don't blame you because I am sure you guys have better things to do than read about me, but if you don't than I hope you enjoy this post !! ; )

1.  I am Asian and I was born in Asia, but I moved to the United States when I was seven years old.

2.  I want to be a vegetarian but the only thing coming between me and achieving that goal is chicken- the only meat that I eat.

3.  I can guarantee you that if I was locked up in a room for 24 hours, but had book(s) with me, I could spend the entire time reading and not even realizing that the entire day passed by.  Trust me, that has happened before except I wasn't locked up in any room.  I was just reading for a really long time, and didn't realize how long it was until I finally looked at the clock.

4.  My favorite gift of all time would be a B&N or Visa gift card for every occasion: Christmas, New Year, birthday, holidays, etc.  But unfortunately, the only gift I ever get are dresses.  Not that I don't like dresses, but I prefer to spend money on books that I can keep forever to dresses which I'll have to throw out after a few years.

5.  I am a candy and junk food frantic as well as my sister.  Our love for candy and junk food usually irritates my mom, who is all about "healthy, and sugar free food" but that never stops us from emptying a whole rack of chocolate at the store ; )

6.  I am writing my first ever book, but every time I go to continue writing my story, the whole process of actually finishing the book and publishing it becomes very overwhelming and scary.  It's a very good thing that I am very persistent so I never give up.

7.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to sing and listen to music!!!

8.  I think the Twilight Saga is overall okay, but I am NOT an obsessed fan.  Of all the books written by Stephenie Meyer, I have only read the Twilight Saga, and The Host, and of all those books, The Host is my favorite even though it's supposedly adult.

9.  I am not a fan of math or boring science.  Math is an absolute no for me because I can never understand it, so I don't want to spend time studying it either.  I like science, but not everything in science.  Only specific things like Earth science which has to do with plate tectonics, volcanoes, etc.

10.  This is the most obvious one, and I am sure you all know it but I am going to say it anyway- I am a absolute book frantic, and to me books are the best thing in the world!!!  Kind of crazy, but it's still true.

Raise Funds For William Sanders

Hey guys!  As you may have noticed by now, I am not doing the "Friday Favorites" meme today.  I have some more important news that I'd really like to share with you guys.

It's about a teenager named William Sanders.  He is seventeen years old and has an undiagnosed diesease that effects his nervous system.  He has had many tests, procedures done over the years but nothing seems to be working.  However, he is and continues to be very optimistic and he has decided to "embrace life".  Therefore, he wants to go on a road trip across the U.S.A on a RV next summer and his family is trying to raise $30,000.

I learned of this fund raiser from Jennifer L. Armentrout's blog and she is hosting auctions for her books in order to help with the fundraiser.  You can help by bidding on her books and helping William and his family raise money for the road trip.

If you want to know more about William Sanders you can visit the following website:

If you want to bid on the books being auctioned by Jennifer L. Armentrout for the fundraiser you can go to:

1. Amy Plum- author of the Revenents Trilogy.  I have no idea why I didn't notice this totally wonderful, one of my all time favorite book series until this year.

2. A.M. Hargrove- author of the Guardians Of Vesturon Series.  This book had it's serious moments, but there were also so, so many hilarious stuff going on in this book that I just couldn't stop laughing until my stomach started hurting and I had tears in my eyes. Literally.

3. Brigid Kemmerer- author of the Elementals Series.  Another best writer of yet another humorous and mystery filled science-fiction genre series.

4. Bailey Ardisone- author of the Sweet Series.  I instantly fell in love with her writing and story and its characters the moment I started reading it.  This is defineately one of my most favorite series of all time.

5. Jennifer L. Armentrout- author of the Lux Novels.  Was I in outer space for all these years?  How did I not know about this books until only this year?  This is probably one of my top favorite science-fiction book right now.

6. Kaitlyn Davis- author of The Midnight Fire Series.  Another vampire book, but with a nice twist, and definately better than the Twilight series.  Not that I didn't really like the Twilight Saga, but when bringing vampires to the spotlight, this book totally knocks down Twilight.

7. Kaitlyn Hoyt- author of The Prophesized Series.  One of my top three favorite book series this year.  Seriously people, if you haven't read any of her books yet, you really should.  It's one of those books that you would read over and over again.

8. Mary Ting- author of the Crossroads Series.  A fun mystery, romance, and suspense filled book that will hook you in from the first page.

9. Cynthia Hand- author of the Unearthly Novels.  I have loved reading every single book in this series.

10. Veronica Roth- author of the Divergent Series.  One of my all time favorite dystopian novels and in my top three favorite list of book series I have read this year.

Shelly Crane's Christmas Giveaway

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a good weekend!  Sorry for the long absence, but I have been kind of busy the past week, and since it's winter and I am in NY right now, it's been snowing all Saturday and Sunday was school work day again.  I would have done a book review on Friday or Saturday but it was just one of those days where I didn't feel like doing anything, so I just read all day.  But I am now back in action and I have exciting news for you.  Here's a quick run down of what my Friday was like (it's part of the exciting news) :

Last Friday, when I got home I spent most of the afternoon downloading books from BN on my computer [my nook's still broken : ( ].  But before I did that I was also checking through some of the author's blogs, and one of the author's had recommended Shelly Crane's novels.  Turns out Significance, book one in the Significance series was free on BN, so I decided to take a chance on the novel, and so far I am totally loving it.  Afterwards, I went on Shelly Crane's blog and I joined her Sweet Street group.  The group's job is to spread the words about upcoming releases, giveaways, and and etc.  So here I am, a proud member of this group informing you all about an awesome, (and I mean as in a really, really awesome) giveaway hosted by Shelly Crane for this Christmas.

The giveaway includes a signed set of the complete Significance paperback book series, $125 Barons and Nobles gift card, and an eARC of Wide Open.  You can enter the giveaway below which I copied and pasted from the authors blog:

Or if you want more information, you can check out the author's blog and enter the giveaway from there at:

For those of you that don't know who Shelly Crane is, she is the New York Times bestselling author of the Significance; Collide; Devour; Stealing Grace; and Smash Into You book series.  I just started reading Significance this past weekend and so far I am loving it.  It's a really fantastic book, and I recommend that if you haven't read any books by her yet, you really should.  Significance is also free on BN so you guys have nothing to loose.  Good Luck!

Making Up For Monday #1: Book Ending

This is a weekly meme hosted by:
An Avid Reader; A wannabe Writer

Website: http://alotofreadingandalittlewriting.blogspot.com

!!!WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS ABOUT THE BOOK MOCKINGJAY!!!

Question:
If you could rewrite the ending to any book, what would you change?

Response:
If I could change the ending of a book it would be Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins:

At the end of this book, Prim is dead, Katniss killed Coin and was punished for it, and in the epilogue all we know is that Katniss and Petta are together.  The readers have no information about what happened to Gale, and the other remaining victors of the games. I hated how this series just ended like that.  Don't get me wrong, because I loved all the books in The Hunger Games Trilogy, but I really did not like the ending of this book.

If I could rewrite the ending this is how it would be-

Instead of Katniss killing Coin without any explanation, Katniss would first gather evidence to prove that Coin did in fact send Prim to the capitol on purpose, and indirectly caused Prim's death.  Then, she would show all that evidence to the people on the day of Snow's death, and kill Coin afterwards without being punished for it.  She and Gale would work out all their relationship problems, and Katniss would finally choose Petta.  Only then, they would return back to District 12 to start a new life.  Later on during the epilogue, it would be ten years later, and Gale would be married to some other girl that he fell in love with and Katniss and Petta would be married too, and they would all have young children.  They, along with some of their relatives and friends, including Katniss's mother, Gales's siblings and mother, Haymitch, Pultarch, Effie, Johanna, and some of the other victors that survived and were close friends of Katniss and Petta would be at the victor's village in District 12 at Katniss's house having dinner with each other.  It would be a reunion, also marking the day of Snow's execution ten years back, and the official ending of the war.  And finally, at the very ending there would be a twist where Pultarch informs everyone of a rumor about a new uprising from District 1 against the government, and that's when the story would finally end.

That's how I kind of imagined the ending to be.  So what do you think, did you imagine the ending of this story a different way?  Is there any other books whose ending you would like to change?

Unearthly (Unearthly #1) Review

Title: Unearthly

Author: Cynthia Hand

Genre: Paranormal- Fiction

Age Group: young-adult

My Rating: 4.5 / 5

Goodreads Summary:

In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees...

Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.

Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.

As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?

Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.

About The Author (From her blog profile)-

I love weird and random moments in life. They keep things interesting. Vegetarian. Proud tree-hugger. Lover of comic book movies. Avid reader. I have an unhealthy love for the soothing music of Josh Groban. Booking Through Thursday #1

Hosted By: Booking Through Thursday
Website: http://btt2.wordpress.com

The following question is actually from November 21, 2013, but the website didn't post anything new for today and since I have free time today I felt like doing this meme, so here it is:

Outside of books, what’s your favorite thing to read? Newspapers? Magazines? Blogs? Fanfiction? Specific websites?

To be honest, the answer is books.  But that doesn't really count as an answer, does it?  Anyway, besides books I like to read other blogs, especially from some of my favorite authors.  I am not that big of a fan for reading newspapers. I like to get all my latest news from the web or the T.V.  However, I do like to read magazines

Reaching Retribution (The Prophesized Series #4)

Author: Kaitlyn Hoyt

To-Be-Published On:

Saturday, December 7, 2013

Synopsis:

Not released yet

My thoughts:

Ahhh!!!!  I can't believe this series is coming to an end.  This is the last book in The Prophesized Series, and it doesn't even have the synopsis yet! :' (  But I honestly don't care about the synopsis anymore, I just want to read the book already! Actually, on a second thought I kind of don't want to read the book because once I finish reading it, the reality of the fact that this is the last book in the series will finally set in and than I'll be like this for the rest of the weekend, and maybe even the coming week :

- I can't believe that really happened!  One of my most favorite book serious actually came to an end!  This is a joke right?  Right!?

< That would be kind of what my face would look like after I finish reading the book, I can guarantee it!

So, what book are you waiting on?  You can leave your answers in the comment box below.

Top Ten Thursday on Friday Along With Some Updates

Happy Thanksgiving everyone (I know Thanksgiving passed yesterday, but who cares?)!!  I hope you had a wonderful feast!

So I was planning on doing a post yesterday, but since I was celebrating Thanksgiving with my family members and too busy eating, I didn't get a chance to go online and do it, so I am doing it today.

It's Thanksgiving, a day to reflect back on things that we are all thankful for.  The following is my top ten things that I am thankful for.  Be warned:  This list does not include the basic things that most of us, including me are thankful for.  In case you are wondering what those basic things are, they would be family, home, clothes, food, etc.  You get the idea, anyway now for my ridiculous but totally true list of things that I am really thankful for:

1. Books-  which reader/writer aren't thankful for books?  They are one of the best things to have been created.

2. Library- the official home of books.  I don't know what I'd do without them!

3. Computer-  which makes blogging and looking up books, listening to music, watching movie possible.

4. Music-  which has always helped me express my feelings and is my best friend.

5. My teachers:  Ms. Alveraz, Ms. Levithan, Ms. Poe, Ms. Munnely, Ms. Pollak, Ms. Roy- who put up with all my craziness and questions and most importantly helped me with my writing/ reading and continues to do so everyday.

6.  Light bulb- because I am still sometimes scared of the creepy sounds and shadows at night.

7.  Chocolate Chip Cookies-  my all time favorite.

8.  Jokes-  sometimes you just need a good laugh.

9.  Broken Alarm Clock- so that you have an valid excuse for waking up late on weekends, and not getting in trouble with your parents.

10.  Imagination-  without which I wouldn't be able to write my stories and come up with all the cool ideas for that story.

This is probably one of the most ridiculous list that you have ever read but it's totally true! : )

By the way if you are wondering why I put so many smiley faces all the time, it's because I am always very smiley.  You'll see me smiling for no reason at times.  It's weird, but for some reason I am always smiling (probably because most of the times I am remembering funny scenes from books that I have read).  So there you go, another weird fact about me.

Week Ahead Schedule

This is just a quick update about the next few books that I'll be reviewing in the coming week.   Since Thanksgiving break is coming up, I might be able to get in more than one review this week.  The following books are the ones that I will most likely be reviewing and which genre they can also be found under:
  • Spark by Brigid Kemmerer (Elemental Book #2): Science-fiction
  • Spirit by Brigid Kemmerer (Elemental Book #3): Science-fiction
  • Unearthly by Cynthia Hand (Unearthly Book #1): YA paranormal
Break starts this Wednesday, so most likely the review for these books will be posted sometime between Wednesday to Sunday.

Special Note:
I don't promise anything, but if I get extra time I will post some surprise book reviews about books that I have read before creating this blog. This is still kind of a 50/50 thing.  It might or might not happen depending on how quickly I can finish all my homework, and writing for NaNoWriMo.  I am sure that you have noticed how dangerously behind I am on my NaNoWriMo novel.  I blame my lack of writing on my homework, although that's kind of my fault since I spend around two hours just on my English homework writing around two to three pages everyday.  I plan on spending this entire week, and break trying to at least make it close to 50,000 words.  If not, then well it doesn't matter,  I'll still continue working on my novel throughout the rest of the year, but since this is a challenge I am really hoping to achieve it.  Anyway, back to the surprise, or more like random reviwes- if I do post them here, than let me warn you beforehand that the reviews will not be in the same format as my current reviews.  They are kind of different and much shorter than the reviews that I have been posting here since creating this blog.

That's all for today, and I'll be back on Wednesday (hopefully)! ; )

Goodreads Summary:

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town

Book Review #2 Coming Up

The next book review is coming up!!  Can you guess what book it is? Yes, no, maybe, so?  I'll be doing a second book review this Friday, November 15, 2013.  And this time I promise to try and actually post the review on that day. : )  Maybe, depending on how much homework I have, I might even do the review earlier, but that's a maybe.  If I can't, then it will be this Friday (hopefully).  Putting all that aside, have you guessed what book it is yet that I'll be reviewing? No?

Well, that lucky book is.... ***drum roll***....

Onyx (Lux Novel #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout!!!!!!

Here's a quick one second, maybe a minute, early review teaser for you:

The action, suspense, romance are doubled up in this book, and that just makes this book twice as good as the first one!!

Notice something weird here?  This the second review that I'll be doing, and this is the second book in the Lux novels and everything in this book are twice as good as the first one.  Looks like #2 is the lucky number of the week! ; )

And now it's time for the book cover:

Don't let the cover fool you into thinking that this is a sappy romance novel, because trust me when I say that this book is way, way more than just a romance novel.  It's a thrilling, exciting, suspense, and all other words that can be used to describe this book, type of book!  Seriously, I am not joking!

You know what they say:
"Don't judge a book by its cover"

Goodreads Summary:

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.
