Daimon (Prequel To The Covenent Series) Review

Title: Daimon

Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

Genre: Paranormal Fiction

Age Group: Young Adult

My Rating: 4 / 5

Goodreads Summary:

"Love in my world usually ended up with someone hearing 'I smite thee!' as she was cursed to be some lame flower for the rest of her life."  For three years, Alexandria has lived among mortals--pretending to be like them and trying to forget the duty she'd been trained to fulfill as a child of a mortal and a demigod. At seventeen, she's pretty much accepted that she's a freak by mortal standards... and that she'll never be prepared for that duty.According to her mother, that's a good thing. But as every descendant of the gods knows, Fate has a way of rearing her ugly head. A horrifying attack forces Alex to flee Miami and try to find her way back to the very place her mother had warned her she should never return-the Covenant. Every step that brings her closer to safety is one more step toward death... because she's being hunted by the very creatures she'd once trained to kill. The daimons have found her.

My Thoughts:

This was a prequel, so it was kind of a short read.  But we did get to see our main characters and also some of the supporting characters that's going to appear in the other books.

Alex- the main female protagonist of the book.  She is feisty, funny, and definitely a kick-ass heroine.  Mess with her or annoy with her and she will fight you!  I loved Alex's character right from the start.  She was the outgoing, social butterfly, with a sense of humor but also vulnerability.

Aiden- the hot off limits pure blood sentinel that Alex had crushed on since her years at the Covenant, but due to the laws prohibiting relationships between half bloods and pures, they can never really be together.  Despite being a pure, Aiden isn't like others of his kind, and treats half bloods fairly and is kind to them.  He doesn't think that he is better or superior than them, and he is especially kind to Alex, who he offers to help train in order to help her catch up on all the training she has missed over the years, so that she can graduate and become a sentinel instead of being enslaved for the rest of her life.  Aiden's unique personality and kindness to Alex is sweet and it's obvious that he is a caring person.

Story line/ Elements/ Plot:

There wasn't really any specific or major plot in this book.  This was more of an introduction to half bloods, pures, and daimons.  There were plenty of actions and and suspense in this book, and also a little bit of humor.  The book left off at a cliffhanger, that had me wanting to read the next book in the series right away!  Overall, the action, suspense, and humor was the perfect blend of everything that this book needed in order to hook the reader in.

Overall Story:

As an introduction to The Covenant Series, this book was perfect!

The pacing was perfect and I was able to understand Alex and how she felt and the reasons behind it very well.  I could understand exactly what Alex was going through, and the whole not fitting in part!

The setting, suspense, actions, and Alex's sweet relationship with her mother will pull you right in and keep you attached until the last word, making you want the next book in the series right away!

This is another one of Jennifer's best book series and you should definitely read it!  I loved this book!

I read the Half-Blood, Pure, and finished reading Deity just today, and I loved each and every book!  Keep and eye out for my review of those three books!

“Okay. He had a point but it wasn’t like I could tell him anything. I
could see me now: Guess what? You ever watch Clash of the Titans or
read any Greek fables? Well those gods are real and yeah, I’m sort of
a descendant of them. Kind of like the stepchild no one wants to claim.
Oh, and I hadn’t even been around mortals until three years ago. Can
we still be friends?”

“Was your mom a gardener?” I asked innocently.
“What?” Ren’s mouth hung open slightly.
“Because a face like yours belongs planted on the ground.”
