Sometimes you just have to take flight.
A summer in New Orleans is exactly what Allie needs before starting college. Accepting her dad’s invitation to work at his hotel offers an escape from her ex-boyfriend and the chance to spend the summer with her best friend. Meeting a guy is the last thing on her mind—until she sees Levi.
Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.
Flight was an interesting read. It had good characters and a great storyline. However, it didn't really have a major plot or the suspense that this story needed to keep it flowing smoothly. I liked that the author tried to make this story a little bit more different than other ones, but in this case that didn't really work.
As for the characters they were all nice and humorous, but sometimes they honestly just seemed very stupid. For one thing, Jess who happens to be Allie's best friend just ditches Allie during during their summer vacation in New Orleans because she made a mistake with a boy and can't get over it. Afterwards, Levi tricks Allie into becoming his mate without even letting her know about it, because he claims he loved her and was afraid he would loose her as she would be going back to New York at the end of the summer. Honestly, if you really loved her shouldn't your love be enough to make her stay with you? And not only that, when Allie finally finds out the truth from Hailey and freaks out, she tries to run away from New Orleans but ends up being kidnapped by an enemy of Levi and his family. When she is finally rescued by Jared, one of Levi's friends, he casually tells her to get over what Levi did and accept it, and blames her for getting kidnapped. Seriously? Your best friend tricks the girl he claims to love into becoming his mate, even though she barely knows anything about your supernatural world. And when she has a mental breakdown and freaks out and tries to leave, but gets kidnapped instead, that's what you say? Levi himself may be very hot and swoon worthy, but that doesn't change the fact that he did a very stupid thing by tricking Allie into accepting to be his mate without even letting her know, or decide what she wanted. The good thing about all these characters were that they are all very determined and caring people, especailly Hailey ( my favorite character in this book), and Allie who was a very strong minded protagonist. The fact that she didn't put up with Levi's nonsense, and kept refusing him at the beginning, and refusing to just forgive him at the end for what he did proved that she was a strong mined character. She stood up for herself and wasn't one to be easily persuaded into anything. These traits made her character different and likeable throughout the book.
Unfortunately, characters aside the plot wasn't much better either. It came too late in the story and wasn't really the strong climax that I had been hoping to read. Most of the story just felt like Allie trying to make her mind up about Levi, and Levi chasing after Allie. It didn't have the whole factor of keeping the reader at the edge of their seat trying to desperately know what would happen next. It was pretty basic and okay, but would have been better had it been more suspenseful and creative.
Overall, this was a quick read and the story, no matter how lacking it was in its characters' personalities or plot, it was still very interesting and had a good storyline going on. The good writing quality, and the funny, witty banter between Levi and Allie, as well as the other characters kept the story upbeat and humorous. Allie's strong personality, and Levi's obnoxious but cute behaviors were enough to keep the reader hooked. This was an interesting book, but I am still not sure if I want to continue on to the next book or just stop with this one.
“Innocent tourists? You make me sound like the big bad wolf.”
“And you’re not?” I questioned.
“Only if you’re Red Riding Hood,” he said flirtatiously.
“Wow, that’s original.”
“As completely terrified and confused as I was, there was no way I was going to spend the last few moments of my life with my eyes closed”
“Not everything in life is black and white. Sometimes the best parts are gray. Just remember that not everything can fit into one of your neat little boxes.”
I realized he had my car keys.“Hey, where did you get those?”
“We found your purse at the Dairy Queen.”
“How did you know it was there?”
“The GPS.” He smirked, seeming more like the Jared I knew.
“You have a GPS tracker on my car?”
