My Thoughts:

Rating: 5 / 5

This was a fantastic book and I loved every second of it!

The main characters were just so amazing and I really loved how their personality was revealed throughout the story.  In most young adult books that I have read,  the main character is usually either just very strong and kick ass, or very vulnerable but yet feisty.  However, Ashlyn's character wasn't like that.  Ashlyn was equally strong, brave, kick ass, feisty and yet at the same time also very vulnerable and sweet.  I loved that Ashlyn wasn't afraid to admit to others when she was scared or worried.  Alongside Ashlyn, Zane and Taranis were my absolute favorite.  Zane and Ashlyn no doubt make a great couple, but for me when it comes to choosing who is more swoon worthy between Zane and Taranis, it was a really hard choice.  Both of them were so humorous, strong, and did I mention totally swoon worthy?  They both had a somewhat troubled past, especially Zane, and like Ashlyn no matter how strong they appeared they also had their vulnerable moments.  There was so much depth in all the characters and their personality was developed and written very beautifully throughout the story which made reading about them very enjoyable.

As for the overall story it was equally amazing.  There were plenty of action, heartwarming romance, humor and silly banters that would have you laughing out loud!  There were also equally as many twists and turns and revelations that were surprising and would keep you at the edge of your seat.  This story was written in such a way that although the dialogue between the characters felt very modern, everything else still had that old time historic feel to it.

Shadow Fire is very different from the young adult fantasy books I have read in the past, but I think this is one of the best fantasy book ever that I have read in a long time!  I loved reading Ashlyn's story and can't wait to read more books in this series!

Favorite Quotes:

"You may as well surrender, pirate!  Where are you going to run?  This is a ship!"

"You'll never catch me, old man!"  Taranis yells from the boom of the aft sail.

"Old man? I'm twenty!"

"Uh, what about the g-griffin?" he stammers, his wide eyes fixated on Freya.

"Oh don't worry.  she can take care of herself.  I'm sure she'll be just fine in the stable," Zane says, acting like arriving via griffin is an everyday occurrence.

***

"We're also expecting a large black wolf.  He should be arriving any minute now.  Please allow him through."  He starts to lead me away.

"Uh, how do we know which wolf is yours?" the other guard asks.  Zane stares back, tipping his head in mock confusion.

"How many wolves usually approach the gate?" Zane asks the guard.

"None?" the guard responds.

"Is that a question or an answer?" I ask unable to keep the laughter out of my voice.

***

"You know Taranis?" I ask.

"Just in passing.  I checked him out when I heard he was filling positions on his pirate ship with innocent orphan boys,"  Loki says with a snort of laughter.  "I go to Palma all ready to tear the man to shreds, only to find out he's the most pathetic excuse for a pirate I've ever met."

She is married to her soul mate, has a teenage son, and shares her home with three dogs and four cats. No, she doesn’t live on a farm, she just loves animals. Her house is filled with dragons, though she does lament that they are the porcelain, non-flying variety.

Kimber Leigh is addicted to romance, videogames, superheroes, villains, and chocolate—not necessarily in that order. (If she has to choose, she’ll take a chocolate covered superhero!)

Her debut novel, Shadow Fire, is the first book in the Light Chronicles series.
